Filed under: News , Polit-eco , Activism , Climate Change The presidential election is coming to a head, and soon we’ll be living with the new policies of McCain or Obama. In addition to all of the economic issues, it’s important that our next president will need to move quickly and forcefully on the issue of climate change. He’ll have his first chance to do that in December, by attending the UN international climate summit in Poland. It’s important that the U.S. — a.k.a historically the largest contributor to global warming — be present and active at the event. And 350 wants you to exert some peer pressure to make sure our new president does just that. 350 is an organization that is dedicated to raising awareness about the “magic number” of 350 ppm of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. We’re already above that line in the sky, and leading scientists say that we have to get it back down below 350 ppm ASAP in order to prevent “runaway climate change”. As you can see from the video, the 350 campaign wants you to ” invite ” the next president to go to Poland and pledge to lead the fight to address climate change. We missed the boat on the Kyoto Protocol, and for eight years the Bush administration has been less than aggressive nightmarishly bad about dealing with climate change issues. With our “encouragement” the new administration — which ever one we wind up with — can get off to a positive start, and show the world that the U.S. is ready to be a global leader on this important issue. To help, go to the 350 site, sign the “invitation” and tell all of your friends. Their goal is to get 35,000 names, but I bet we could get more than that!   Permalink  |  Email this  |  Linking Blogs  |  Comments
