We live in a time of strange bedfellows (see GOP ticket) and stranger duets (see Tony Bennett and Friends) but the recent teaming of hardcore rapper 50 Cent and gay icon Bette Midler may be the strangest yet. Yes, their stories, talents and fans could not be any more different, but they do share some common ground- so they dug in it. The ground (and subsequent digging) in question is in a community garden in Queens where 50 Cent grew up. It has been dedicated as the Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson Community Garden. Midler’s New York Restoration Project and Jackson’s G Unity Foundation worked together to restore the garden located in a Jamaican section of the New York borough. 50 Cent footed the bill, no questions asked. “He stepped up to the plate to fund this project,” said Bette Midler, “and when it ended up costing $100,00 more than we anticipated, he didn’t bat an eyelid. He wrote the check!” Nicely done, Fiddy and Bette. Keep it up! [via ecorazzi ] 50 Cent teams with Bette Midler - Really originally appeared on Green Daily on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 17:03:00 EST .
