Greenpeace Winning the Whale War

Filed under: News , Activism According to Greenpeace there are over 4200 tons of whale meat frozen in Japan with no buyers. The government subsidizes the whaling industry there and allows so many whales to be killed a year for “research” purposes. Greenpeace’s Jun Hoshikawa in Japan claims that the whaling industry has ceased to be profitable as the stigma of eating whale meat is too high. Late last year, Tokyo’s largest whale meat shop, Yushin, was forced to close . Whaling ships are having a hard time filling their crew roster as many refuse to sail again. Japanese whalers are fighting back against Greenpeace and especially the Sea Shepard’s anti-whaling campaigns. They’ve gone as far as to ask the country of Australia from allowing the Steve Irwin to enter their ports. Somehow I don’t think that Australia is going to comply.
