Filed under: News , Polit-eco , Climate Change I spent my formative years at Catholic school, so I know a thing or two about stuff God doesn’t like - divorce, abortion,shiny shoes - but now Pope Benedict XVI has updated the big book of Catholic guilt with a broader variety of sin . On a flight to Australia, the leader of the world’s Roman Catholics told reporters that he wanted to “wake up consciences” on the issue of climate change, saying that people need to be aware of our “responsibilities toward Creation”.
It’s not Il Papa’s first kick at the environmental can; he made some green statements last year, although he declines to embroil the Church in discussion around specific policy or technical solutions.
Still, when he’s right he’s right, and if he can convince the faithful to install a Solar panel or two, it wouldn’t be a bad thing. That said, as long as he’s in the mood for planet-saving, the Church might be able to accomplish even more by lightening up a little on those birth control rules .Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
