When I found out that American Idol host and radio star Ryan Seacrest had been attacked by a shark in Mexico — on the first day of Shark Week no less — I thought: it must be fate . According to PETA, however, the attack wasn’t a simple twist of fate — it was justice. Not that they actually related their new billboard design to Ryan’s misfortune, I connected those dots, but that’s pretty much the gist of the blog entry explaining PETA’s new man-eating ad. Apparently, the reason behind shark attacks is the fact that humans eat sea animals . Maybe if people would just change their eating habits, this prehistoric battle between sharks and mankind could finally come to an end . Ah , wouldn’t that be nice. The truth is that shark populations are in danger all over the world for a variety of reasons. Ocean acidification would be one problem, overfishing another. Oh yeah , and there’s the fact that people kill them senselessly because sharks are perceived to be man-eaters — a stereotype that PETA’s new ad perpetuates. Lame .
